Instructions on how to make a Kumihimo Beaded Bracelet
Cut the threads: Cut 4 strands of thread, each 1 meter long.

Prepare the base: Gather all 4 strands together and tie a small knot around the middle using one of the strands.

Wrap the base: Use the same strand to wrap around the other threads for about 2 cm.

Create a loop: Make a small loop and tie a knot to secure it. You should now have 8 strands in total.

Add the beads: Thread the Miyuki beads onto each strand using the needle included in your kit. Follow the provided pattern to know the correct bead order. Tie a small knot at the end of each strand to prevent the beads from slipping off.

Set up the Kumihimo disk:
Place the knotted end through the center hole of the disk. Then arrange the strands in the following slots:
-
1st strand → slot 1
-
2nd strand → slot 8
-
3rd strand → slot 9
-
4th strand → slot 16
-
5th strand → slot 17
-
6th strand → slot 24
-
7th strand → slot 25
-
8th strand → slot 32

Make sure your strand placement matches the numbering in your chosen pattern. For example, for pattern number 2, the placement of the strand is the following:

Practice the braid: Before adding beads, practice the Kumihimo braiding technique using just the threads.
-
-
From the top two strands, take the right-hand strand and move it down to the bottom right slot.
-
Then take the bottom left strand and move it up to the top left slot.
-
Rotate the disk anticlockwise (the direction is marked on the disk) and repeat with the next set of strands.
-
For example:
-
Move the strand from slot 1 → 15
-
Move the strand from slot 17 → 31
-
Rotate the disk
-
Move the strand from slot 9 → 23
-
Move the strand from slot 25 → 7, then rotate again.

Start braiding with beads: Once you feel comfortable with the movement, begin adding beads. Each time you move a strand, slide one bead down to the center of the disk before crossing it.
Continue braiding: Braid until you reach your desired length. The sample models are designed to be 18 cm long, but you can adjust as you wish. End by braiding another 2 cm section without beads.

Attach the clasp: Insert the toggle clasp bar onto one of the strands and braid about 5 mm more to secure it.
Secure and finish: Tie all strands together in a firm knot, trim the excess thread, and add a drop of glue to the knot for extra hold.
